SAF AT MILL VALLEY FILM FESTIVAL

Within the project called "Croatian animation cultural exchange" produced by Croatian film association and american artists Sarah Klein and David Kwan, mrs. Jasminka Bijelic Ljubic presented the croatian children film and video creativity on 35th Mill Valley film festival (MVFF) which was held from 4th - 14th of October in San Rafael and Mill Valley (California).
Thanks to the California film institute (CFI) and John Morrison from MVFF, selected short animated movies from SAF were screened before the movies for children in official competition. Beside the screenings and with cooperation of Intel computer clubhouse, mrs Ljubic lead the animated film workshop for kids. In two days intensive course, children made a one minute drawing animation movie which was in fact the birthday card for the festival's 35th anniversary. The workshop was followed by kind hosts, mrs. Klein and mr. Kwan as well the leaders of the Clubhouse, mr. Morrison, and people from CFI.
There were also two special projections of SAF's recent movies in the local primary schools as well the projection of the movies from other croatian children film clubs.
The reactions on the movies were great. Mrs Ljubic screened more movies than were planed and answer the hugh number of questions about movies, how they were made etc., since this kind of after school activity is not very well known in this part of USA.

SAF NEW FILMS

The kids in SAF studio worked past school year very diligently and produced all together 35 short animated films. Most of these films

were made by youngest SAF members, who created their first animated attempts through which they gained basic knowledge about animation and animation techniques.

The rest of SAF members, those who already have certain experience in animation, realized nine new animated films, using various techniques and processes. Here we have few first individual films, but also complex films made by older students. All they expressed a big variety of ideas together with plenty of original characters and drawing techniques.
As always, these films will represent SAF studio at different festivals in Croatia and abroad. The first public presentation of whole production was for Cakove audience, during International animated film workshop (17th to 24th June).
